SEVEN SISTERS IN NO
PARTICULAR ORDER
2021
TAMPA MUSEUM OF ART | TAMPA, FLORIDA
Seven sisters in no particular order is a sculptural work that presents seven hand-crafted stave snare drums on a custom stand. In 2017, inspired by the spirit of resistance and transgression of the women’s marches, Babcox founded a collective called Noisy Women, with the intention of offering drum lessons to women of all ages. The goal was to create some noise, in the streets, in the studio, and in the gallery space. Seven sisters in no particular order draws on the experience of this group and the community of women drummers. The drums can be removed from the stand and activated for practice sessions, and for performances.
